In our Q2 report we shared the news that Alpine Roads had come out of stealth, rebranding to Nobell Foods. On July 12, 2021, we invested $1M in Nobell’s $75M Series B financing led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures. Nobell’s patented approach to making dairy from plants is the result of years of research and development conducted at MBC BioLabs. Nobell uses soybeans to produce casein, one of the key proteins found in cows’ milk and responsible for giving cheese its stretch, melt, and mouthfeel. Many of you tasted a prototype of Nobell’s cheese at our 2019 Annual Meeting. They are now scaling up production of a plant-based cheese destined for mass markets that is indistinquiable from dairy-based cheese.
